THE CHURCH: THE BODY RECAP
Thanks for joining us as we continue in the series title The Church! We want you to know that you are loved and here at My City Church we want our church to feel like home to you!
At My City Church, we want to be a church that carries the heart of Jesus. We believe that similar to the human body has different parts that operate and function, that the Church should function similar to the body. Each part plays a pivotal role that truly matters to the growth and development to the body and to the Church.
“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.”
We believe that Paul writes this telling us that each part is designed for a function. Christ is the head and we are the body as the Church. We were created on purpose and for a purpose. And since we were designed with a purpose, we need to take ownership of that and take personal responsibility for it!
At My City Church we have an expression that we use a lot and it goes like this:
“What I am a part of is BIGGER than the part I play.”
God knows He’s given you gifts, talents and abilities. He created you and He is the one who blessed you with those! But our God is most concerned with our hearts, minds and souls and how those are growing. Your spiritual growth matters and it makes a difference in the Church if it isn’t growing. We need each other to operate and function just like the body needs to have all body parts operating in unison to function properly.
It is said throughout scripture that if you want to find your life, then you must lose it. So if you want to grow spiritually then what are you doing to serve? We’ve heard it put this way: if serving is beneath you, leading is beyond you.
If you don’t know what you are building, it will be easy to get distracted along the way. If we are building the big C church, when we gather we need to be prepared and equipped when we scatter. When we all come together in spiritual growth and pursuit of Jesus it will make it easier when we go out into the world to be a light in dark places.
It comes down to this: God wants to be a part of this life of yours. And either He is Lord of all or He isn’t Lord at all. He loves you and wants you to find your place in His Church to find your calling to impact the world!
We love you My City Church!
