NO VACANCY: THE DAY LIFE WAS BORN

Do you ever feel like the "Here Comes Santa Claus" jingle comes on earlier and earlier every year? Like as we are putting on our vampire paint and clown makeup, Santa's jingle bells are playing in the background. Red and green flood the stores while it's still hot outside. No matter how much some people don't like how soon Christmas comes each year they cannot deny the vibe it puts in the stores; people smile a little brighter and maybe dance a little down the aisles.

Christmas has that positive feeling because of what it stands for. Life was birthed on the day Jesus was born. God had been silent for 400 years waiting for the birth of the One who will save us all. After 400 years of taking a breath and stepping back God started sending angels down to begin the hype for the Savior coming. One of those angels, Gabriel, was sent to Mary. At about 16 years old, an angel appeared out of nowhere before her and told her she was pregnant with God's son. It's amazing how we look at that and don't see how crazy that is most of the time. Mary wasn't some saint of a woman who did something miraculous so God chose her. Mary’s defining characteristics were that she was available and willing for God's plan in her life. Finding herself available granted her the largest blessing in the WORLD! We can assume it was terrifying for her to be put in that situation but she believed in what God had planned.

Fear is something that rules our lives if we let it because it's the enemy’s language. Fear is faith aimed in the wrong direction. If you find fear in your life what do you put your trust in? Putting trust in God's plan isn't always easy because we have fear in the unknown. But we will never know it all ahead of time, so why fear the future anyway? Satan put fear into the world when Eve bit the apple thousands of years ago and from that point humanity was waiting for redemption. We were given that with Jesus' birth even though none of us deserve it, but it is given time and time again after each and every sin on every single day. We are blessed with the love and compassion that Jesus sacrificed His life for.

The "Reason for the Season" is life. It is putting faith in the thing that really matters and that will free us from the fear in our life. My City Church is driven by that faith in God's plan that is why we are going to grow and change so many lives here in Omaha.
