21 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Topic: #PRAYFIRST | God's Presence, Strength & Guidance
James 3:13-17 (NIV) - Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Before we do anything, we should set aside time to pray before acting. Why? Because we need God’s wisdom and guidance in every area of our lives. The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” God wants us to take bold action, but He also wants us to take steps that are full of wisdom. Wisdom helps us to avoid pitfalls and struggles while we pursue all that God has for us. In 2018 our church has big goals, but more than anything we need God’s presence, strength, and guidance throughout the year.
When are lives are full of wisdom, we are stronger and more fulfilled on the journey. Wisdom builds confidence in our lives. Not the kind of self-confidence that many people have, but confidence in God. The reality is the only way we truly receive wisdom is to PRAY FIRST before acting. It is only in the presence of God we receive strength and insight for the vision ahead. God can help you solve problems, make smart decisions, and show grace to those around you. Just look at the fruit of wisdom: It is pure, peace-loving, considerate, full of mercy, and sincere. God’s wisdom makes every situation come alive with faith, hope, and love.
In 2018 God wants you to be full of the Holy Spirit and His wisdom. When we create room to pray first before acting, we are creating room for God himself to work in our lives. During this 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting, our goal is to create room by giving up something and take time to seek God. During this time we are going to ask Him to strengthen and guide us this year. For if God is for us, then who can be against us.
My passion as Lead Pastor of My City Church is to challenge you to create room for God in your life. Fasting is about giving something up to create space in our lives to pray more than we normally do. It is about shifting our focus back onto God and His great plan for our lives and our church. When we seek Him, He promises to lead and guide us and fill our hearts with His wisdom.
My prayer for you is that you would PRAY FIRST into 2018 knowing that THE BEST IS YET TO COME in your life!
