Sunday, September 30 was an amazing day throughout the city of Omaha. Dozens of local churches joined together with the mission of “releasing unprecedented compassion on our city.” My City Church sent 150 volunteers to six sites throughout Omaha. Check out what we were able to accomplish below:
Lutheran Family Services
Lutheran Family Services serves refugees and under privileged families by providing needed household items, legal and support services, or sometime just a friend who will listen or speaks the same language. Volunteers from My City Church were able to reorganize the warehouse, discard unneeded or damaged items, and create a system that makes it easy for support workers to find what they need! https://www.lfsneb.org
Red Sand Project & Prayer Walk
Human trafficking is a serious issue in Omaha. An average of 675 people are sold multiple times for sex in Omaha alone each month. A group of prayer warriors walked through known areas where sales are made and participated in the international art installation of Red Sand Project to let those trapped know that they are not forgotten. This was the first of monthly prayer walks over this issue. https://redsandproject.org
Kids for Kids
The littlest hands of My City Church worked to brighten the days of children in Foster Care by building crafts and cards for them as a reminder they are loved! https://childsaving.org
My City Church & Thompson Alumni Center
Our amazing Load In & Load Out team joined by a few other dedicated volunteers completed some not-so-spring cleaning around the church as well as repairing benches and other needed areas around the Thompson Alumni Center.
My City Youth tackled projects that the teachers of Adams Elementary rarely have time for. Relationships were built with several teachers as well as the principal. We are excited to continue building this relationship and blessing the teachers who do so much for our kids https://adams.ops.org
Our first partnership with Kellom Elementary led to a cafeteria makeover and a little blessing for each teacher and staff member in the form of a small treat and thank you for all their hard work! https://kellom.ops.org
We hope all of Team My City had a blast at City Serve and is ready to get back at it on October 19th as we head back to Adams Elementary for their Fall Festival and Kellom Elementary for their LEGO Ninjago Movie Night! Register below to join us!
