Movement and a revolution is happening in the world of women and in the city of Omaha; My City Church is helping to drive it forward. This past Tuesday, October 2nd, My City had their second City Girl event and it was an inspirational time to fuel women to become all that God has called them to be. The evening was full of fun (vendors, shopping and food trucks), fellowship (worship, prayer and sermon) and challenges. Challenges to chase after the full potential that each woman has within them.
Going along with the theme of dreams, this City Girl event was moved to the ballroom of the Ralston Arena and let’s just say that we’re going to need a bigger room for the next one! There were so many women there enjoying the vendors, food, drinks and you better believe there was S’MORES OVER AN OPEN FLAME because it’s fall and who doesn’t love a s’mores by a campfire in fall? Once everyone had their fill of the s’mores, we were able to move into the stage area where all the magic happened.
Worship was opened with a My City original song, Faithful to Come (if you haven’t yet, make sure to go download it on iTunes or any music streaming service). As worship became more intimate, the worship team sang one of the most impacting songs, Lean Back. Just the words of this song are enough to comfort the most broken soul because it focuses on how we all must lean back into the Father’s arms and how we can rest there to be filled again. God embraces all His children and holds them closer with each breath. Each woman was able to experience this whether or not they were believers. God was there. Jesus was there. The Holy Spirit was there.
What comes to your mind when you think of your dreams? Where do you want to go from here? Where do you think God wants you to go? Pastor Angela Norman brought forward phenomenal message that challenged each and every woman in the room. One of her opening statements was, “You are living in the status you are.” There’s a lot of truth in this statement. The biggest wall we encounter are the ones we build ourselves. However, we have to come to the realization that our voices were meant to produce faith that see through our obstacles and over our mountains. Without this ideal, we wouldn’t go anywhere. Pastor Angela went through the entire list of how we cannot allow ourselves to give up or stand by to let our lives pass us by. We can’t have any excuses.
Along with the courage to pursue our dreams, we also have to be there to encourage the other women around us. Are we encouraging those around us? Are we building a community that speaks life or death? Every woman in the room at City Girl is part of a community that speaks life. We don’t speak negativeness into the lives of others because God will not be limited by negative thoughts. Women should contend FOR one another not compete with one another.
Pastor Angela moved into the next section of her message which was all about obedience. She emphasized that there is comfort and reassurance in the fact that we can be obedient because God is with us EVERY STEP OF THE WAY if we are willing to sacrifice our lives for Him. If we give everything to Him, He will not disappoint us. We also have to be willing to go where God wants us to go even if it’s somewhere or something that makes us uncomfortable. As Angela said, “In order for our dreams to be a reality, our obedience is required.”
As the message was closing, we went back into a short period of worship, but the best was yet to come. One of the most pivotal and important moments was when Pastor Jesse Norman, Pastor Angela’s husband, took the stage to speak and close our the evening. Through all the inspiration and encouraging words he spoke, there was one statement that stuck out. My City Church and in fact all churches should be a place where strong men invest in helping make strong women so they can then release them into the world. Women are so powerful in their own way and if everyone can embrace this strength, the world will be a beautiful place. This is one of the most important ways that men and women can work together. We are stronger together and strong men that believe in building up strong women will partake blessing that strong women are.
Remember what Psalm 31:25 says, “She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.”
Start Laughing. Be Strong. Be Obedient. Have Courage. Know God is With You Always.
