When thinking about a foundation for a house, what words come to mind? Concrete, Solid, Strong? A house's foundation is the single most important part of its structure. This process can't be rushed, or the whole house build will fail. Without a strong and sturdy foundation, a house will become damaged. This makes sense right? A house's base determines the integrity of the walls, infrastructure and habitants. What happens with the foundation of our heart if it isn't built on solid ground? Does it crumble? Does it crack? Do we try to make quick fixes that in the end, fail as well? Some people build the foundation of their heart on things like need for acceptance or self-doubt or pain.

These things do not support the weight of the world around us, and we end up breaking and crumbling. There is only one thing that we can build our foundation upon that will keep our heart strong under pressure, or storms: Jesus.

"Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation! Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 3:11 MSG

But there is something positive about storms that come into our lives. After there is a storm, we can inspect our foundation and identify the cracks that have allowed water to get in. These storms help fortify us and our relationship with Jesus. He doesn't send storms to wipe us out, or destroy us. No, He sends the storms to help strengthen us, and reinforce our foundation in Him. For once we have a firm foundation, we have the freedom to pursue faithfulness and confidence to step boldly into our future. When we find our foundation is secure, and can be reliable, we are able to step out in faith in what God calls us to do!

"You’ll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again." -Isaiah 58:12

Know this: Jesus wants to come into our lives, and to make our foundation strong. He doesn't condemn the way it was built, He doesn't laugh at the way that we have patched up the holes and sealed the cracks. He wants to help us rebuild, to make things right. He wants to create a stronger foundation than we have ever had, because the stronger the foundation in Him, the greater His light shines through us. For what we choose to build our life on, determines what God can do through our life. God wants to do amazing things, not only in our personal life, but in the life of our church as well. God wants us to build My City Church on a firm foundation of Him, so that we may be His hands and His feet in Omaha, NE. As we journey through this Heart for the House series, keep in mind the foundation that we are building at My City. A foundation of being excellent in spirit, generous in action, and inclusive in nature. Our mission is to Love God, Love People and Lead in Life. What a foundation to build a faith-filled church on! Imagine the things that God will be able to do through our church, because of the foundation we have built on.

The best is yet to come!
