Relation-Tips: Build The Future

Build The Future

Sermon Verses: Habakkuk 2:2-3; Proverbs 29:18

What you envision will certainly become your future. God Dream.

Have you ever been around a couple that has recently fallen in love? These couples start to act in a certain way. Guys usually start to act completely out of their skin: doing things they'd never be caught doing and talking in high pitch tones when answering a phone call.

Have you ever noticed that love affects us in a weird way and it begins to change the way we act as people. Whether it is starting to like new things that we didn't previously enjoy or we start to give up things that don't really align to where the relationship is going. These are great things and we believe that God created these emotions within the emotion of love for us to enjoy because they are good.

Love that is butterflies and emotion-filled love doesn't stay like that forever. The love that is emotion-filled never quite seems to last long enough. We eventually get to the point where that kind of love hits us smack in the face when we realize that we need more than just that kind of love that is filled with feeling and emotion.

Love can be one of the most intoxicating feelings on all of planet earth. But if we are really serious about the relationship we are building, we'll wake up one day and know that this kind of love just isn't enough. We must build a future together. Building a future is a kind of love that is more satisfying, fulfilling and will surpass all those feelings. It is built on a God dream together.

The key in how we move from the one kind of love to the more fulfilling kind of love is to keep our focus on God and His love. Our spouse will never satisfy the kind of love that we desire because it is something only God can offer. But building a God dream together is what will help propel a relationship forward into a future together. "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but the Lord's purposes prevail."

These foundations need to be founded on a God dream. And in order to be successful in building that God dream, it needs to be written down. It's got to become a thing where it is written on the hearts of the couple.

Habakkuk 2:2-3: Then the Lord replied: Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. 3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

The power of God is His ability to take a relationship and make it whole and complete. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 states, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." There is power with two people, but there is EVEN MORE power with God involved.

Here is the key: two individual people, seeking God in their own lives to find the God dream that He has purposed over their life. Then when you finally meet the person who you are called to compliment, you'll combine those dreams and start a God dream together! Jesus can do all things and He wants us to get the order of our lives right from the beginning in order to allow the God dream to play out in full effect.

The stronger the conviction around getting our priorities aligned with what God has called us to the greater the pull to follow through. If the conviction is not there, we can get blown wherever the wind goes. But if we believe that God sends the wind with purpose then how much more can we have confidence that He will do so with us? After all, we are His children!

Proverbs 29:18: Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
