OUT OF ORDER
Scripture Reference: Romans 1: 21-25
Have you ever put endless amounts of money into a vending machine and no matter what you do that snickers bar won't get out of the machine? Have you ever put time and energy into a relationship and no matter what you do it just doesn't feel right? When we invest effort or money or time into a relationship we expect a big return. But when we do things out of order in relationships the outcome is never going to be the one we truly want.
It might be shocking but, God made sex. He made it to have a purpose and be pleasurable between a husband and wife. Unfortunately our society has perverted it into something that is casual and common in our day to day. Now sex can be accessed as easily as clicking a button or swiping right. The adversary using sex against God has birthed the porn industry which makes roughly 14 billion dollars per year. God isn't in that.
He made us to worship Him in all areas of our lives. He isn't a part time savior; He is Lord of all or not Lord at all. When we don't run to the Lord for help and guidance we start to look around at culture and fads to fill whatever void we may have in our life at the time and that is where the adversary works. Where there is no greater authority the we will always follow the majority. We find ourselves confused and ashamed of what is happening in our lives. God is never behind confusion. Your life, including sexuality, was given to bring worship to Him. That might sound weird, but great things are birthed out of sex. YOU! You were born because of sex. The world has perverted, sex but His word shows us that God intended for it to be beautiful and pure
Romans 1: 21-25: 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
In today's world sexuality and sex are used far too frequently by the adversary. The devil was there when God made the blueprint of the world and he knows how to break people. The devil knows to break people at a young age through sexuality so he has his hooks in us for life. But our God is bigger than that. Jesus died to forgive ALL of our sins. Not only is sexuality being attacked but marriage is as well. Sex was intended to be between man and woman; Genesis 2: 23-25 And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
When we get the order God intended things to be out of order than God becomes out of order. Sex is to be spiritual before it is to be anything else. God made sex to bond a man and woman wed together more than they could ever bond with anyone else. They become one. The adversary breaks our sexuality and we carry that brokenness into our future lives and unfortunately into marriages. Marriage is a covenant (an agreement that brings about a relationship of commitment between God and his people) and the adversary knows it is a sacred place and pushes himself into them. If God isn't put first and two people aren't running to Him first and then their significant other, there will be a lot of room for the devil in sexuality and breaking that Godly covenant. Three strands braided together are stronger than two strands wrapped within each other, God, you, and your significant other. You can never lose by putting God first. No matter the pain of your past God is in your tomorrow and He wants to be the Lord over EVERY part of your life. People sometimes don't find love because they are too ashamed of their; past, their current struggles, or a vision of who they think they will be due to how they were raised. They never open up and let someone in because of that same. Adam and Eve were naked and had no shamed until they ate the fruit of evil.
We as Christians need to break these bonds in people by getting them to have an encounter with Jesus. John 4 talks about the woman at the well and her encounter with Jesus. She was a samaratin and didn't believe a Jew would want to talk to her at all. She beleived her past relationships with men made her shameful. Instead of going to get water from the well in the early mornings she went in the middle of the day so she wouldn't have to hear the snickers or feel the dirty looks of the others. See she was now married to her 5th husband which in our society is frowned upon but was even more shameful back then. She was thirsty for a void to be filled that no man could fill. Salvation gives us a never ending stream of life so we don't thirst. Jesus called the woman out for who she was in her eyes, her identity. After having an encounter with Jesus she ran to her husband and told him that Jesus told her everything about herself when in fact he just told her what she identified with. We need to open our hearts so our identity isn't in our past hurts and events that keep us down. After that day a revivial happened in the rest of the book of John. The revival started with one woman with a broken past going to a well with an open heart and mind. She went to the well ashamed and head hung low and left leaping with joy and renewal.
